The weather forecast for the whole of the preceding week was for
a foul Sunday, which always tends to have a bad effect on the
attendance of spectators… and so it was on arrival at the
field at 7.30am. Another new trophy
was won by Brian Palmer with Orbit who was also Reserve for the
In Hand section Championship to Mrs E Roe’s Rowena who was
awarded the Gilbert Down Tankard. |

Our thanks
to the team running the Jumping classes, which started slowly but
gained momentum during the day beside the ever popular Clear Round
ring. Following the showing classes the Minehead Harriers were paraded
by Richard Tong and his assistants, who gave an entertaining display
before all the children were invited into the ring to meet the friendly
hounds. Mrs Fran Jordan then had a difficult task with the Fancy Dress
contestants, doing a splendid job before the gymkhana games got under
way.
With fewer ponies, it meant an afternoon for less experienced children
to shine and they all seemed to have a great afternoon which thankfully
remained dry and fairly bright. Special thanks to Jane Weaver and
her family for providing professional standard refreshments, ably
assisted by kind supporters, alongside the great team running the
bar. Other attractions around the field included Ali’s terrific
Bottle Stall and Margaret’s excellent draw, as well as some
trade stands, not forgetting of course the ever popular dog show,
with thanks to the orgainisers who also had a busy afternoon.
The Minehead Harriers would like thank the Joint Secretaries of the
show, Liz and Rosie Scott, also the landowners, Mr & Mrs R Williams
and the National Trust, and especially those who came and helped us
in any way; their tremendous support is very much appreciated.
